JUDO PROGRAMS

PEAK Judo Club offers judo programs for all ages, from beginners to advanced.

We offer five different judo programs, providing options for all ages and abilities. Our youth programs are structured to allow members of similar ages and abilities to be together, thus allowing them to practice and to make friends with peers their age.

For beginners who are starting judo later in life and also experienced recreational judokas, we offer the AIR Program.

For experienced judokas who are interested in refining their judo and competing at a higher level, we offer the PEAK Program which is designed to guide them to the next level and help them to reach their goals.

TACTICAL JUDO

Judo for Police and Self-Defense.

As part of our commitment to help Simon Fraser University criminology students and others interested in policing as a career, we offer tactical police judo with our AIR program. As part of the AIR program, we have experienced police officers who are also judokas, share their knowledge and tactical judo use in law enforcement.

Also included in the AIR program is Police Officer Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) specific training for those members who are interested in entering law enforcement.

All of our programs also incorporate self-defense basics.

OUR TEAM

PEAK Judo Club offers coaching and instruction from experienced and NCCP certified coaches.

We are proud to have an experienced and certified coaching staff at PEAK Judo Club. All members of our coaching staff are NCCP certified and registered, and have taken courses on how to make our sport safe and inclusive.

Our coaches work together in every aspect of program planning for each PEAK program, ensuring a consistent framework and flow between our program offerings. This facilitates an easy transition from one program to another for our students as they get older and/or more experienced.

WHAT IS JUDO AND IS IT FOR ME?

Judo is an Olympic martial art based on grappling and throwing. Judo practitioners, known as judokas, compete against each other with the objective to throw, pin or submit their opponent.

Judo is for everyone. In judo, unlike many other sports, there is no ideal body type. People of any shape and size can learn judo and have success in judo due to the many techniques judo offers. Judo is a great sport because it also teaches body awareness, physical literacy and creates self-confidence. In judo we follow a moral code which is a set of ethics and values that judokas practice on and off the mats. Although judo is a contact sport, it is very safe for children and adults alike due to the emphasis placed on respect for each other and the learning and practicing of breakfalls.
